George Abbott is a seasoned strategic leader with many years of experience serving in the public interest at both the provincial and local government levels. He has extensive Board experience and is the current Board Chair at Technical Safety BC and the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability.
George served as an MLA for 17 years and served 12 years in cabinet with portfolios in sustainable resource management, health, Indigenous Relations and education. He was instrumental in leading legislative changes in the early 2000’s relating to reform initiatives for creating both Technical Safety BC (then BC Safety Authority) in 2003; and the introduction of Land Title and Survey Authority Act in 2005. Both organizations are thriving today, proving the success of the independent authority model.
Before his election to the Legislative Assembly, George was a political science instructor at Okanagan University College, a Director and Chair at the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, and a berry farmer. George holds a doctorate in political science from the University of Victoria.
