Anar Shamji Popatia has over 20 years experience in governance, entrepreneurship and stakeholder engagement driving business growth, transformation and partnerships.
She serves on numerous boards and advisory councils, including the Land Title & Survey Authority of BC and Transparency International Canada, and holds federal appointments to the Departmental Audit Committees of the RCMP and the Department of National Defence. Her previous appointments include Chair of the Vancouver Foundation’s Honorary Governors’ Council, Vice-Chair at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, and Director at Consumer Protection BC, amongst many others.
Anar has served as a partner in a family wealth management practice, held senior roles in consulting and business development working with companies across a wide range of industries, and spearheaded the turnaround of an international steel distribution and agricultural manufacturing business in crisis, engaging with stakeholders in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
Anar received the 2020 BMO Celebrates Women on Boards Award for empowering women to lead in corporate governance, and the 2013 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Award for her community engagement.
She is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School, the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Competent Board’s Global ESG and Climate Programs. She holds the designation of ICD.D, GCB.D and CCB.D.
