Effective October 19, the public can file a Claim of Builders Lien using an online application at ltsa.ca/FileCBL. The new online application offers many features aimed to improve the accuracy and completeness of Claim of Builders Lien applications including the option to easily prepopulate key information and copy address information. LTSA encourages customers to use the online form regardless of how they intend to submit their application.
As previously announced, applicants will use their BC Services Card app to verify their identity, and to sign into the application if submitting online. The option to fill out the application online and then mail in or deliver a copy of the completed application to a land title office will remain.
LTSA would like to remind lien claimants that filing a Claim of Builders Lien does not guarantee payment. It is the responsibility of the lien claimant to inform the property owner and to enforce the lien which will require the help of a legal professional. Once filed a Claim of Builders Lien remains on a property owner’s title for one year and can interfere with their ability to sell the property or secure financing. For more information, consult the Builders Lien Act.
