First introduced to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at college, Laura was intrigued by its multiple uses from the start. Upon graduation and after a few years working in the forestry industry, she decided to switch careers, returning to school to pursue a GIS degree from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Laura joined the ParcelMap BC team in 2016.
One of Laura’s favourite aspects of working as a Parcel Fabric Technician is viewing old plans and historic records, and seeing the whole history of an area. She also enjoys contributing to projects that make ParcelMap BC’s product offering more powerful and easier to use by customers.
In addition to inputting survey datasets and quality assurance data clean-up, she works on the Titled Roads project where thousands of roads that did not make it into the initial launch of ParcelMap BC are being integrated into the cadastral fabric. To date, 26,000 parcels have been added. With the help of her colleagues, the project is nearing completion, with only 6,000 parcels left to input.
Laura views ParcelMap BC as a huge puzzle and with each survey and road parcel submitted the puzzle gets closer to completeness.
