The Surveyor General has published Circular Letter 475D, which replaces the prior version, and has updated versions of Directions to Land Surveyors No. 15 and 16 as described below.
Effective January 15, 2026, the Survey and Plan Rules were amended to clarify that “specific instructions” issued by the Surveyor General may differ from the Rules (see Rule I-3), and to clarify the range of situations for which specific instructions may be issued.
- Circular Letter 475D and Direction No. 16 have been updated with minor revisions to reflect this rule change.
Additionally, the Surveyor General, in collaboration with the Province, has developed a process whereby plans may be filed in the Crown land registry when a land surveyor is monumenting the boundaries of a gazetted, but previously unsurveyed, highway through untitled Crown land.
- Direction No.15 contains an added section that outlines the process for performing such a survey and completing the plan.
