Filings to the Land Owner Transparency Registry for February 2021

In support of the Province’s comprehensive plan for eliminating hidden ownership of real estate in BC, the Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia (LTSA) is responsible for developing and operating the Land Owner Transparency Registry (LOTR), as set out in the Land Owner Transparency Act (LOTA).

For the month of February 2021, LOTR received 14,547 transparency declarations related to registering an interest in land and 1,614 transparency reports from reporting bodies. LOTR has received a total of 46,571 transparency declarations and 5,064 transparency reports since required filings to LOTR began on November 30, 2020.

Limited information about reporting bodies and their interest holders will be searchable by the public starting April 30, 2021. By November 30, 2021, pre-existing registered owners with an interest in land who are reporting bodies—a relevant corporation, a trustee of a relevant trust, or a partner of a relevant partnership—must file a transparency report.

Property owners are encouraged to consult a legal professional to determine reporting obligations. Find out if you need to file at https://landtransparency.ca/filing.
