Re: Amendment to General Survey Instruction Regulation

The General Survey Instruction Regulation was recently amended by BC Reg. 6/2004 and came into effect on January 22, 2004. A copy of the new amendments is attached in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Some edits were made to the sample survey plans in the regulation, however they are exempt from publication and not included in the attached PDF. For your convenience, we will advise you when the sample plans are posted on the Surveyor General Branch website.

The most recent consolidated version of the regulation, known as BC Reg. 229/2001, may be viewed at the following address:

http://www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/reg/L/Land/Land229_2001/229_2001.htm (updated August 2015)

A new consolidated version of the regulation, to include BC Reg. 6/2004 will be posted to our website when available.

In order to allow land surveyors and land title office staff to become familiar with any new provisions, a period of leniency in the enforcement of the new provisions will apply. Plans dated prior to May 1, 2004 will be accepted under the old regulation. While land surveyors should make every effort to comply with the new regulation, plans dated prior to May 1, 2004 will be accepted if prepared under either the old or new regulation. Plans dated May 1, 2004 or later must comply with the new instructions.

If you have any questions regarding the regulation, please contact one of the Surveyor General Branch land surveyors.

Yours sincerely,
